Re: How would you go about making an interesting AFF one-shot.
It depends if it's a one-shot to introduce people to the game, or for your usual group but you want to do something different that wouldn't work with their main PCs. For an intro one-shot you want to get into some action as soon as possible, it's what hooks people in my experience. It also needs to ...

Re: Rules Locator List?
Yep that's something that we could do here. It'd let people find rules spread around the various books and also help them decide if books are worth getting. The way rules are spread around the books is a bit disjointed, but if you look at the number of new books we've had since the AFF2 rulebook cam...

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Well the two posts are only three days apart, but I was wondering if they were always separate books. The post I linked to talks about a magic compendium with items from the first ten FF books, Sorcery and FF:TIRG. The second post listing chapters seems to be more a general treasure book, although C...

Re: Looking at The SKILL 12 problem with new eyes
Outnumbering and combat penalties go a long way to keep combat challenging at high levels but seem to be overlooked. They could do with more emphasis in the rulebook, they probably do get missed by new GMs sometimes. Outnumbering particularly is a key part of the system and one of the things that m...

Tweaked Character Generation
The default AFF2 character generation system gives you PCs that have been adventuring a while, veterans of their profession. This seems to have been designed to provide characters similar to the heroes of the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. The difference of course is in the gamebooks you were a lone he...

Re: Looking at The SKILL 12 problem with new eyes
I've read a few online articles, and I think it was addressed on this forum as well, the problem of having a 12 skill character who walks over everything, Over time I've learned more about running games and game design and I don't think this is a problem. The key here is how the game is set up and ...

Re: Allansian Sorcery
This is the info we got on the magic items book earlier. The post just after that though seemed to be describing more a treasure book. Wondering if these are one and the same or different books?

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Encyclopedia Arcana: Volume 1 Ah hah! You let slip the name of the upcoming magic book, we don't normally get info like that until it's practically in our hands! ;) Demi-Sorcery sounds like a good approach for those spells, it explains why they're Sorcery like but also different. It'll offer some i...

Re: Is luck roll given to resist priest magic?
Yep it is powerful, but it is from the gods and priests use of it each day is pretty limited compared to magic users. I really like how different Graham made priest magic from the usual just another spell caster. The rulebook could definitely do with a statement in the Priestly Abilities section say...

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Yeah I wasn't sure if those STAM numbers were from the book or what you'd come up with. What other FF gamebooks had spellcasting (I'm not counting Scorpion Swamp and its spell gems)? I think you're right that were was no intention for wizardry and sorcery to be different back then, they were just ex...

Re: Allansian Sorcery
Temple of Terror is still on my bookshelf waiting for me. Just curious, in it Yaztromo describes what he's teaching as sorcery? Does it have any of the characteristics of normal sorcery like physical spell components and costing STAM? Maybe they're wizardry spells and he just calls it sorcery? If it...

Re: Is luck roll given to resist priest magic?
Hey darksoul! Incite says "Unlike every other Priestly power, this one will allow the target a test against LUCK to avoid the effect.", so BTB I'd say no. A few of them like the primary power for Slangg even say "with no test for LUCK". Weakness seems okay to me, it's just temporary, but Curse is qu...

Re: Question about Natural Mage Talent
Yeah minor magic's cast at +6 so it's easy anyway. You could apply Natural Mage to it too, but keep in mind that means they become free to cast because they only cost a MP when you fail. You could get them to make a casting roll and if they fail it costs the MP but the spell still succeeds. Natural ...

Re: Missile Combat
The alternative unopposed tests are an optional replacement only for standard unopposed tests, not opposed tests. There's no mention of combat in the Alternative Unopposed Tests section because combat BTB is done with opposed tests. Alternative unopposed tests have the same issue for combat as norma...
