Re: A couple of questions

Just for something to compare to, old school B/X and BECMI D&D used (adjusted for its 10 sec round): 4 ft/s in combat 2 ft/s in combat if armoured 12 ft/s running and not in combat 6 ft/s running and not in combat if armoured You either moved or you attacked, although a web search showed a rule was ...

Re: A couple of questions

Did a bit more looking into this and seems an average person jogs at about 3.7m/s and sprinting speed is about twice that. But adventurers are usually carrying a lot more than your typical jogger. It might be good to have a table that gave different m/round depending on encumbrance, but keeping it s...

Re: A couple of questions

In my softcover AFF2 rulebook page 48 says 2m/round and so does the PDF, but my hardcover says 10m/round (yes I'm enough of an AFF tragic I have two copies of the rulebook, if the wife ever finds out I'm toast). Which makes sense depends how long an AFF round is and I'm not sure it says anywhere. I ...

Re: Bar room brawl

There's also Mayhem In The Mermaid in White Dwarf 96 using WFRP rules. Great for ideas to make it more interesting and co-authored by Jim Bambra who's one of my fav writers.

Re: Plain text rulesbooks for tablets and readers

One option would be to put the text into an EPUB file, a format specially for eReaders. From what I know the difference is a PDF has a fixed layout for each page but an EPUB doesn't, it's just the text and the eReader arranges it on screen how it likes based on the font size selected, screen size an...

Re: Plain text rulesbooks for tablets and readers

Going through the AFF PDFs and taking all the images out wouldn't be too much work but the problem will be the layout completely changes. So then you spend more time fixing layout glitches, stuff splitting across pages where it doesn't make sense and so on. A bit of work. Some RPG PDFs have each pag...

Re: A couple of questions

No problem, AFF2 does do some things a bit differently. Rolling in combat when you're not attacking is a bit unusual in RPGs but makes complete sense when you think about it. If you're experienced in combat then you should be harder to hit. Most games represent that with hit points that increase rap...

Re: A couple of questions

There is no mention of a backstab ability, beyond the +4 attacking from behind. In many games a thief gets double damage or higher with a successful backstab. Has anyone houseruled this? If the character succeeded in remaining hidden (opposed roll, page 55) I consider it an attack with surprise, wh...

Re: Print Copies/Pod

From what I've seen on DTRPG only Arion's non-AFF books have a POD option there. But if Graham makes more ordering direct from the printers, effectively POD without the middle man, then it may not make sense adding POD on DTRPG when he already has the web store. Although DTRPG is easier to find and ...

Re: Print Copies/Pod

Just contact Graham, http://store.arion-games.com/storepage2182561.aspx, pretty sure he can print more as needed. But agree that even if that's right the webstore saying out of stock on almost everything doesn't exactly encourage sales.

Re: Print Copies/Pod

You can get real books direct from Arion at http://store.arion-games.com/ or PDFs from DriveThruRPG https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/667/Arion-Games , but no POD just yet. From what was said when the PDFs were made available it's down to the terms of Arion's license with Ian and Steve. But it...

No that's a new one on me. Something's wrong with that link but I was able to find it easy enough with a search. The sample maps look pretty good. The second to last one in black and white has Dyson Logos style cross hatch fill!

Re: sneak in chain and plate

There is a gap there but my opinion is the Dodging penalties in the rulebook work for sneaking. Or if using my expanded Modifiers Table then it'd be Acrobatics (I made the Dodging penalties less harsh for the reasons given in the thread). I'll update my table to say "Acrobatics and Sneaking".

Dice Men

This might be interesting to some here, Steve and Ian have a book they're trying to fund about the early years of the hobby in the UK. Hardback only so not cheap but should be a good read.
