Re: New stat checks.

personally I like the idea of combined stat checks. especially Stamina would reflect well that your diminished health if having an impact, could also deter players that happily wander around with 4 Stamina out of possible 12 relying on their good Skill, Dodge or Armour to keep them safe. I often use...

Re: Downgrading SKILL

I have long thought that 4 different Skill scores would be useful, in fact I was working on making my own system based off original dungeoneer before I found AFF2. dividing Skill categories into Athletics, Stealth, Lore and Movement could work. with magic being it's own entire category. of course so...

Re: Elf Abilities.

The possible Talent Nimbleness seems to basically mean you only roll combat against one opponent and automatically avoid the additional opponents (upto 3) unless they also have Nimbleness. is that correct? I think that Combat Reactions covers enough of this to be honest. almost to the point that I h...

fleshing out an undead town/city

okay so I have an area in my sandbox game which my players have blundered into when I was not expecting it. the area was intended for later higher level engagement, but they've found plenty of warnings and decided to stay here. so I have an area which is affected by a timey wimey curse and filled wi...

Re: sneak in chain and plate

thanks. I too have found issues with the Cuirass' being just inferior when compared to a Hauberk. I have a dwarf in a chainmail hauberk plus large shield elf about to get chainmail cuirass two archers in leather cuirass about to upgrade to hauberks and thinking "why not the chain?" be good to give t...

sneak in chain and plate

there doesn't appear to be any penalty to this. is this intentional? there are penalties to all the other movement type skills like jump, swim, climb etc. as someone who has owned chainmail and worn plate before it seems a little odd if i'm honest! and I have two players sticking to leather, one pla...

Re: Outnumbered combat rules

I agree: the outnumbering bonus reflects the difficulty in trying to defend yourself while multiple people are trying to stab you. if that is not happening then no bonus for you. animal hunts typically you would surround the prey, move in on one side to stab while making noise on the other side, the...

Re: Item obviously stolen

surely the modifier is more about it being in stock? I mean you may really want water in the desert, but the trader is less likely to have it...if they do it will cost more. in the marsh though water is more common and also cheap. the modifiers would work the other way around if you are selling rath...

Re: How do you manage Tracking?

hunting could be used to cover this as noted. if you don't like it I would use the appropriate terrain lore with awareness granting a bonus, versus the targets terrain lore with awareness granting them a bonus. personally I use this in a lot of instances: player tracking NPC assassin through the woo...

Re: Missile combat modifiers

regarding large and tough monsters though hitting the dragon is easy, hitting the dragon in a spot liable to take injury may be harder though. so a "miss" might in fact be an arrow glancing off the bony ridge on the dragons head, no way of causing damage there. in fact I will be keeping the versus r...

Re: Questions on monster damage modifiers

doesn't stop the spell though, just makes it harder to cast. there is nothing in the rules about a spell failing if you take a hit, but having a missile weapon fired at you can cause you to fail due to the penalty. although hand to hand would penalise them more. I am having an issue with lightning b...

Re: Questions on monster damage modifiers

i think the 4 is an error from the books as stated. large fist and double damage would seem appropriate given how powerful they are supposed to be. dragons are very powerful and they are supposed to be, I think their breath weapons could be powered up a little bit more personally. if anything the is...

Re: Arhallogen and Hmurresh

thanks all for the ideas. I have watched Grimm and like the idea of a partial transformation. drbargle I have actually read those blog posts about 18 months ago when I first started looking into AFF2 as it happens! just couldn't remember how I found them and googling the gods names didn't help. the ...

Arhallogen and Hmurresh

part of the sandbox adventure I am writing has a powerful follower of Arhallogen (Spider god) as one of the powerful bad guys. I am considering putting in a group of weak cultists following Hmurresh (fly god) who are not supposed to try to stop the other person, but find out what they are doing and ...

Re: Outnumbered combat rules

i can see a situation, dependant on positioning, where 4 ogres (each with 2A) fight 4 adventurers in such a way that each ogre is capable of fighting two opponents each round. the heroes should probably avoid this position as it is giving an advantage to their opponents. even if you have 4 adventure...
