Re: How about reducing the number of magical styles?

I really like what you’ve started putting together here and hope to see more. This is a great idea because it not only helps give some more form to spell casters without a major set of rule changes it also helps create much more interesting npcs and enemies. We move away from all wizards being a guy...

Re: Non-hero character generation

I had a lot of fun using this in the past, i also modified it slightly to have poor city dwellers as an option as well.

There is something about the zero to hero storyline which grabs me, feels more satisfying somehow than starting off as a ruthlessly efficient killing machine.

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

You don't want to lose the simplicity of the AFF2 character generation system by trying to make it support starting at any XP you like. What might work is to say the Director can pick one of three starting points; Untrained, Adventurers or Heroes. One of those could be presented as the default the ...

Re: Lets get started

Pitch 1: article giving tips and explanations on how to make great NPC’s (prepared and on the fly) which do more than tick a box but really engage players. Pitch 2: à SA article about running an adventure on a ship, how to design ships and life on them. Taking a closer look at life in stellar navy’s...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

This sounds like the ideas which have been suggested in the past for having weaker or pesant adventurers. I like it and agree if you are keeping the starting skill low and a restricted number of points then you also need to reduce skills in the beginning. You could say that a “traditional” starting ...

Re: Mongolia in Titan

If it’s not for the Fanzine then you always have the tribes of the Flatlands in Allansia which are fierce mounted warriors according to Titan. They could be any form of steppe nomads you want from history.

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

Sure, but it's not just about what would work in your own game. How would you add it to the rulebook so someone new to the game and maybe new to RPGs includes training in a way that makes a difference to how fast the PCs gain AS? It’s not the first time that you have training in the rules in a RPG....

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

Personally I think the trainer idea is a great one. It allows groups the ability to tailor the speed of development in a nice easy way because you role play it. Groups can make it easier if they want to go faster or harder if they want people to work at it. It can also be a great side quest or even ...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

How about formalising the convention that special skills can only be half of Skill?

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

When I say open to anyone for submissions I would recommend restricting this forum at some point to those working on the Fanzine (central team plus contributors). People who then want to contribute/get involved then just need to request access to the central team with their proposals.

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

I like the proposed layout, this is going quick which is encouraging! It looks like we have a deputy editor, I vote for Dawndeath. Don’t worry about the lack of experience, you have the enthusiasm which is what really makes a Fanzine a success. For the content I would recommend building up a backlog...

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

I agree on the role of the editor. Although I can’t promise enough time to be part of the central team I’m happy write articles on a range of subjects on the list.
