Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

So...does that mean that only Dan will be doing the monster lore, or can I still submit some pieces?

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

Well, Graham's already said that he'd be happy to do the layout (and I'm very grateful to him - I know nothing about DTP,) so I don't think we really need to be worrying about that side of things. One day, we might be able to take responsibility of it and lighten Graham's load, but I think we need t...

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

As far as contents go, that sounds about right; it's pretty much what you find in any RPG magazine, really, professional or amateur. But these things are constant features in mags because they work and they're what people want to see. Certain types of content will need to be in each issue, particula...

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

That's the thing. I think it's also true that roleplayers are generally more welcoming to newcomers than they used to be, so veterans will hopefully be more tolerant of material that they might not have too much use for themselves - they'll see the wisdom of it being there. Back in the 80's, things ...

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

It sounds perfect, particularly when you consider how much stuff people are bombarded with now, which they feel pressurised to keep up with. Back when Fortean Times was bi-monthly (possibly even quarterly - I can't remember,) I used to read it cover-to-cover; now it's monthly, I'm still reading the ...

Re: Would you show NPC stats?

I agree with Dawndeath, partly because I'm also a Cthulhu Keeper and like to keep players in the dark about monster strengths and capabilities, but also because of some shuddersome AD&D memories. The players all had their own copies of the Monster Manuals and knew exactly what each beastie's stats, ...

Re: AFF Fanzine (AFFFZ?)

I've been thinking about a series that looks at monsters in more detail; the Titan book has quite a lot of information on the major tribal races, but we know very little about Calacorms, Brain Slayers, Claw Beasts, Miks, Ganjees, etc. (the "Pit" books, like most RPG Beastie Books, tend to stick to t...

Re: AFF should be more popular

It certainly should be possible, yes, especially if there's a precedent like TrollZine; but it's something I don't have any technical knowledge of either, I'm afraid. Like you, Dawndeath, I think my contributions would be in the form of content. What we need is someone with a bit of e-publishing kno...

Hey, HedgeWizard. Hope everything's going well. Have you and your wife managed to get any sleep lately? And have you decided on a name?

Re: AFF should be more popular

To make sense of it, you have to have read 1. Trial of Champions and 2. the whole of this thread.

But yes, I'll stay on topic from now on. Consider my wrist slapped. You too, Dawndeath! Stop your nonsense!

Re: "Trading in" Wizard spells

The only game I'm aware of that handled the"systemising" of characters' behaviour really well was Pendragon; because the code of Chivalry was so restrictive and also so important in Arthurian society, it made thematic sense that acting accordingly should be a central element of the game.

Re: AFF should be more popular

Well...yes, he was an absolute horror (even though I'm pretending to mourn his loss,) and yes, I was hoping that Robb 1 would hack that smirk off his face (even though I'm pretending I didn't,) but that's not the point! I was grounded for a whole week! I'm the injured party, here!
