Re: Alternative unopposed tests
I use the alternate "roll as high as possible" for all tests, including LUCK tests. I was introducing a whole group of new players and it was much easier to just be consistent. As you say, it's the same odds. So I'm not sure why that's suggested to stay as roll under - I hadn't realised that was the...

Re: What's Next on the Horizon for AFF2e?
Really eager to get my hands on the Combat Companion! Current party includes a player who wanted his hero to be skilled at unarmed fighting and a mage who is looking to learn... more useful spells for combat. As a quick homebrew to make it viable I've so far been letting the unarmed fighter use the ...

Re: Mass battle
The closest I've come so far is a "medium battle" where the party had to, with the support of half a dozen locals, defend an inn from a horde of attacking goblins. To speed things up I assigned each of the locals a chance out of six to win against any goblin, so I could resolve their action each rou...

Re: Sensational Atlas of Titan
Generally my preference to have bullet points rather than read-aloud text, as well. When I'm prepping I don't write out a full description for areas because so much can change by the time they get there. Maybe it's night, day, raining or there's a strong wind blowing the trees around. Maybe the guar...

Re: Where can I find a detailed map of Allansia/Titan?
Any idea where I could find these maps? It's the Mr Nibbs link I posted up there. They really are fantastic. I was at at first doubting why Salamonis seemed like it would have less buildings than Blacksand, but having thought about it makes sense. Blacksand being an overcrowded, terrible place to l...

Re: Learning Minor Magic spells
Yah, just a minor tweak since I don't know that there's much benefit in making players save up to buy two at once before they can get any new ones. (:10 XP each has been suggested a few times, which is pretty much the same thing.

Re: Where can I find a detailed map of Allansia/Titan?
Exactly! I'm not too fussed about it being non-canon, as I've been making up plenty of locations myself. I have mostly been hoping to perhaps use it for some consistency, rather than canonicism (if that's a word), as a behind the scenes Director-only world map. My players get completely different ma...

Re: Magic Masks
A late thought about this and a possible solution the problems for the people involved: for the seller: they can only have a limited dormant/active masks for the buyer : they have no idea if it's the genuine article for the Director : the heroes can carry lots of masks around and get overpowered whe...

Re: Learning Minor Magic spells
I'm handling it pretty much the same way. Though rather than two for 20exp, I just say it's one for 10exp. Makes for something to spend those last few leftover bits of experience on. So yeah, I've been using the same four rules you mention here except the second one is: -additional ones are learned ...

Where can I find a detailed map of Allansia/Titan?
I see a lot of reference to a map made by Dave Holt, but I can't find it at full resolution anywhere after a good half hour of google and forum searching. I did discover the fantastic resource that is the Atlas of Titan, though, so the search was worthwhile. P: Is Dave Holt's map still available som...

Re: Mass battle
Misread this as "for their background" and heck, meeting on the battlefield would be a great start to an adventure or way for an adventuring group to get together.

Re: City of Thieves module
Here are some ramblings with no guarantee of being good ideas... wasn't sure if you wanted advice on running an adventure in a city or advice on adapting that specific book. :P Just some general thoughts: Think of the city like any other terrain. You don't need to describe every tree in a forest, yo...

Re: Balancing/Challenge Rating
The number of enemies is going to make a huge difference too. If the heroes outnumber the opponents then they will find things much much easier. I'm afraid I forget who, but somebody had a way of lumping groups of enemies into a single opponent with many attacks. Maybe that could be a way to account...

Re: Magic Masks
Feels like magical tattooists are supposed to be uncommon, but not exactly rare (on the coast, at least). While mask magic is unusual and exotic. So you get fairly established prices for the former, but the latter is likely to be entirely at the whims of the mask maker. Game-wise, tattoos are limite...

Re: Magic Masks
Will probably need this for the session I'm running tomorrow, too. If the heroes stop by a particular merchant Don't know about an official list, which would override all this. But some (very rough) quick back of the envelope calculations as a rough starting point... Learning each new mask spell is ...
