Re: Yaztromo

I had the thought of tracking down all the game books with Yaztromo appearing, then try to convert and combine them as a campaign. The PCs would act as agents for him in return for Yaztromo's patronage (pay a retainer or tutor a magic using PC in new spells, that sort of thing).

Yaztromo

How many books did Yaztromo appear in? I remember him in Forest of Doom and in Temple of Terror, but did he turn up in any others?

Re: Ambidextrous Talent fighting - details?

Good point. The more I think about it, I'd be inclined to just use a +2 bonus to Attack Strength then.

Re: Ambidextrous Talent fighting - details?

one should also restrict the Ambidextrous talent to wielding weapons of the size of a short sword or smaller. But then how would I play a dual scimitar wielding dark elf ranger? I kinda like this, and it has historical merit. A secondary weapon was used mainly for deflection, or when opponen...

Re: Linking FF gamebooks for campaign play

I would so like to see Freeway Fighter's world brought up to the the 21st century and redone for AFF. Post-apoc is my second favourite flavour. I'd really like to see the Dark Future boardgame get redesigned too (not like Games Workshop will, however).

Lets not forget: Warlock of Firetop Mountain -> Return to Firetop Mountain -> Legend of Zagor Warlock could be used as the starter adventure. Then perhaps after a few different adventures, trouble stirs in Firetop so it's back they go only now the party are seasoned adventurers. Then when they are n...

I'd go with the Shapechanger from Forest of Doom. Why? Because that was the first Fighting Fantasy book I ever saw, and the cover illustration epitomised the unknown dangers lurking in that forest.

Fairly easy to adjust the age for a mature adventurer. Just add 20, 30 years on to the dice roll. For an older character, say 40+ years, I'd probably be looking at small bonuses/penalties to Special skills, particularly combat skills, to show that they aren't going to be at the top of their game so ...

That's one of the reasons I like AFF; as well as being easy to play, character creation is a fairly open format and you don't have to be wedged into any preconcieved character class.

Optional - Hero's starting age

The character sheet has a field that you can put your character's age, but no rules have been set down to work out how old your Hero would be. I envision that usually Heroes would be fairly young to start out, which would be easy for humans (generally from 16 to 21), but how to do it for the long li...

Good work. I can just picture a warband of northern barbarians charging to war screaming Throl's name.
