Re: Combat Options

This is updated to v1.4 . The maximum critical hit range is reduced from 9-12 to 10-12, and to make that work the -2 for using a weapon without the WSS is folded into it rather than being separate. A new option is added that makes a double six win the round but not automatically be a critical. Thank...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

It's definitely an issue that 1 attack in 36 is a crit regardless of how low the creature's AS is, and unlinking the always wins on a double six from getting a crit is the only answer I can see. Checking who won the round if a 12's rolled, to see if it's also a crit, is a small price to pay game spe...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

To me it makes sense that, if you can hit your opponent easily (i.e. by a wide margin) you should be able to deal more (critical) damage as well, while normally criticals are just a lucky factor accessible to everybody with the same frequency (roll 12). Okay I see what you're saying, you should be ...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

I think there could be an optional rule to deal critical hits not only when you roll a double 6, but also when your attack roll is much higher than needed to hit I clicked that when I've looked at doing this before it was for other games, and with the way AFF2 works the calculation is really easy. ...

Re: WOFTM session finaly. Further Analysis.

The Warlock is like a guy who owns a big old house and some friends came to stay and never left, then invited some of their friends. Then some other people turned up who'd heard about the place and just invited themselves in. The Warlock has no idea who half the people are living there but as long a...

Re: using priests for other things

The way priests work in AFF2 probably hasn't been talked about as much as some other features of the game, but I agree it's another major plus point. There's not many RPGs that really do something different with priestly magic so they're not just a different type of spell caster. On top of that the ...

Re: WOFTM session finaly. Further Analysis.

The book doesn't say anything about the food. I started them at Firetop mountain with 2 rations each. They did get food along the way but they had eaten both meals by the time they passed the first area, which was only an hour into the dungeon. Ah okay I misunderstood the previous thread as saying ...

Re: WOFTM session finaly. Further Analysis.

Were the players used to other games where healing was more plentiful? It sounds like if they'd been more wary of combat from the beginning things wouldn't have been so dire by the end. It's definitely something that takes getting used to. On the food situation, I can't check my copy of the adventur...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

I'm curious, are people reluctant to give increased crit ranges instead of some AS bonuses for WSS? If you are is it because you don't like making WSS work differently to other skills, or you don't want to do anything that increases crits? In some games criticals are really dangerous, but in AFF2 th...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

currently in game the players TAKE more critical hits and are hindered more by them. their enemies tend to die so don't suffer the -1 Skill penalty for very long Ah right, you mean with the standard rules. Yeah that's been talked about here before but I'm not sure we ever came to a solid conclusion...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

I think the way to use the extended critical hit range is to make it so that the Skill damage doesn't happen until after the fight. cover that with whatever story telling mechanic you want: adrenaline keeps you going, its only afterwards that you realise the damage you have incurred. that way the m...

Re: Any plan for à third édition ?

I put this together to show how the AFF creatures are spread out by Attack Strength (SKILL). It includes OotP and BtP but not RttP (because I already had the numbers for those). The blue bars are the number of types of creatures with that AS. The lines are the total number of adventures the PCs need...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

It's good to understand the full problem with changing OotP, thanks for the openness on that. It seems like the Pit books should be at the bottom of the list for the full colour treatment because it's going from having art from the gamebooks for every creature to needing art for every creature. Plus...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

Maybe OotP can be published in a single book together with the Corebook... so many options may be available to deal with the issue in a tidier way. They got combined in the AFF Deluxe book but as the text of OotP wasn't able to be changed it didn't fix what you're talking about. However it gets pub...

Re: Tweaks and clarifications to the new AFF rulebook

Yeah you can't take that section out of the rulebook until an updated OotP is done. Including a set of common monsters in the rulebook is a pretty good idea, and 20 might be enough. But as long as OotP isn't able to be reworked you still need the AFF2 stats for all the OotP creatures in the rulebook...
