Re: Combat-Related (House) Rules

when I first got the books I email Graham about the round duration and it is 10 seconds.
good job, otherwise wizardry spells would last forever! (being as their duration is in minutes)

Re: Combat-Related (House) Rules

i think fight defensively is already potent and doesn't need any help, as per skinny orc above. the issue I have with the move is that the increase of x5 speed is incredibly quick in game terms (not IRL terms). I mean if I move fast I can still do things just not that well, I am not at 5 times my us...

Re: Entelodont (Hell Pig)

in terms of rarity of packs, this gives us a good reason why the teeming hordes of evil haven't wiped out the world so far! sure they also fight amongst themselves, but if packs of these guys are running around they don't get as much of a chance to pacify their surroundings and increase their number...

Re: Clarification requested: Concentrate Spell

cast concentrate and mirror self in the same round, when mirror self's duration expires you automatically cast it without rolling and without using up an action. a great use for a defensive spell or, maybe even better, a movement spell if it suddenly stopping would be dangerous (say flying over molt...

Re: New Monster "Drachnoid"

I like the monster and Drachnid works well as a name.
giant spider webs are extremely vulnerable to fire, in OotP they are noted as causing 2D6 damage to anyone in a web when it catches fire, so that could work well?

Re: Proposed Revised Social Standing Table

this is the issue with taking historical titles which meant things in the real world and "cutting and pasting" them into a fantasy world without any of the background that led to the creation of those titles in the first place.

Re: Question about sprinting

personally i would build sprinting around the strength special skill. simply because in the real world sprinting is an expression of strength and not endurance: nobody runs record 100m times and also competes in marathons, sprinters are always muscular and big, whereas marathoners are lithe and skin...

Re: 30 Minute Adventures

i fully intend to contribute to this, I don't really write adventures in this sort of style if i'm honest so it is good practice for me. my Net Fu is quite weak though so i'm having to work around that. I've done one, then realised it is better as a "prequel" dungeon to another idea I already have s...

Re: Invincible Players

but in my hypothetical scenario John no longer wants to play that character. at all. he wants to play a sneaky goblin who doesn't get into combat, unlike his previous ex-soldier who thrived for that kind of thing. while I say this is a hypothetical scenario this is something I have happened a number...

Re: Invincible Players

in relation to the question I have voted No. I dislike random deaths for no purpose, although it does reinforce the FF world, I would never have a "an orc archer shoots you and you die" moment like the books!! characters acting according to their behaviour in a way they know will kill them should in...

Re: Invincible Players

how is the situation different though? I mean "I built a vast epic around John's character and then he randomly died due to bad luck (actually bad player choices) but I will save them to continue my story" is surely the same as "I built a vast epic around John's character but now he has decided he w...

Re: Invincible Players

What if you planned a quest based around a hero and he/she dies at the start? in reality the answer to that is "Don't" it is a mistake I and, probably, many other if not all GM's/DM's have made in the past. there should always be other ways to continue the story on. after all, in a similar vein, wh...

Re: Unlikely Heroes

John the farmer. he is very sturdy but only skilled at farmer skills, very little seemingly appropriate for an adventurer... but then one day a passing sorcerer noticed he had natural talent at sorcery and took him under his wing, taught him the lowest level of sorcery spells because John's ability ...
