Re: AFF should be more popular

Another point on the forum: Keeping it as the friendly, welcoming and exceptionally polite place which it is. A closed group with lots of in jokes, snearing about others and being short tempered and rude is an absolute killer for any ruleset.

Re: AFF should be more popular

I’ve been following this discussion with interest but a new born baby has been keeping my hands occupied preventing me replying. That said a couple of things which are coming up and which I agree with: Community, Community, Community! There is nothing in AFF’s or indeed any RPG’s mechanics which mak...

Re: Newbee question

I was looking at DF and the Forum from the publisher. Looks good I have to say! Although the forum seems a bit quiet these days, how is the community over there? Looking at the other discussions happening about how to make AFF more popular wondering if there would be opportunities for cross pollinat...

Re: AFF should be more popular

This is an excellent topic and I’ve been giving it some thought. One of the advantages which D&D has over pretty much any RPG is name recognition. Even my wife who has absolutely no interest whatsoever in RPG’s and gaming has heard of D&D although she had no idea what it was. For many people Dungeon...

Re: Shields and Helmets

Dawndeath, spot on with the comment about the breath of possibilities with SA. With AFF and SA you can do high fantasy, historical, modern, sci-fi of any description... if you can imagine it then you have the tools to do it. I’ve tried lots of different systems but nothing has beaten these ones for ...

Re: Shields and Helmets

Hello again, peeps. HedgeWizard's suggestion of looking at the Maelstrom books is uncanny in its timing - I've recently been thinking of checking them out (particularly the Gothic variation, natch.) Do! an excellent series (although I haven’t yet purchased Gothic). It’s been a real source of inspir...

Re: Shields and Helmets

I don’t know those settings/games so I’ll have to check them out. When I first read your message I saw Marlborough which brought images to me of the turn of 18th century: big wigs, big coats, big hats and lines of soldiers facing each other. That certainly would be a departure from the usual setting...

Re: Shields and Helmets

Ah, I see; sounds groovy. One of the best things about AFF is its adaptability; I quite fancy a Melnibone campaign, at some point (and Stellar Adventures has made the Dune campaign inevitable, now...) Agree 100%, it’s one of the many reasons why I’m such a fan. I’m actually looking at blending SA a...

Re: Shields and Helmets

It’s a sandbox reimagining Titan. I want to keep the variety of cultures but I’m modifying technology a bit and tweaking magic.

Just a bit of fun for the summer :)

Shields and Helmets

I’ve been mulling some alternative rules for helmets and shields and wanted your thoughts. Imagining AFF as more of a dark age/early medieval setting I limited armour to chandail hauberk at the maximum. But at that time everyone had whopping great big shields (round shields, kite shields etc.). If a...

Re: Solo Guide

This is great news. As a 100% solo player I’ve used every available set of solo rules with AFF and SA as well as making many home brew versions. Really interested to see what you come up with. Some things I would suggest: - make it tailored to AFF and SA, it needs to fit with them and allow the play...

Re: New stat checks.

Just answering to your question about simplifying. The mechanics of the game books are built into each story. Basically you’re only seeing part of the rules, what you would see as a player in a normal game but not the bit behind the GM’s screen. That means that sometime different approaches are used...

Really looking forward to seeing what you’ve put together. I happen to be getting back into SA again at the moment.
