Re: Gelós: Another approach to skills & Talents

Looking forward to seeing it! Don't know if it's any use or interest, but here's the list I've compiled over the years for personality traits... Feel free to use, adapt, or ignore! Sincere Insincere Passionate Indifferent Humble Proud Meek Arrogant Fawning Overbearing Sociable Reclusive Cheerful Mel...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Yeah, updated sheet on the way. There's a couple of bits I've been deliberating over, and a few tweaks to other wording here and there...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Thanks for the advice HedgeWizard. Stepping back to consider the end goal, is a good call . I agree that being whacked by a pole axe would probably be as devastating as being run through with a short sword, but I see these results coming after the attack, after it is determined whether or not the at...

Re: Gelós: Another approach to skills & Talents

Thinking about the number of skills, a standard beginning character gets three skills at level 2, and six at level 1. When creating characters using the Skill Packages idea, I wonder if: each Skill Package should have a total of four skills at level 1, and they pick three packages based on their cha...

Re: Gelós: Another approach to skills & Talents

That's a really interesting idea, I like it a lot. It kinda brings all skills into a similar use as Talents, but in a broader sense, and I like Talents as they are a quick way to differentiate characters and give them an 'instant' speciality or 'hook'. I wonder if there's a way gamers who want to st...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Yeah... sometimes simple thought need an awful lot of words to explain! One think I'm wondering though... About my suggested bonuses/penalties for All out attack (and Targeted Strike) - I'm wondering if they're too generous or too mean depending on the weapons involved. The basic All Out attac...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

I like those articles, thanks for posting them. He's very good at breaking down GMing into simple components. I think a lot of experienced GMs will do much of this already, but sometimes having it pointed out in nice clear and simple terms helps people realise what they're doing right, and what they...

If it's any help, I just knock mine up in Google Docs, using the font Palatino.

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Something I meant to add, inspired by one of your comments... AFF gives the option for an All Out Attack, in which a bonus if given to the Stamina damage inflicted. I think there should also be an option for something like a 'Targeted Strike', where the effect is a greater chance of hitting an unarm...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Hi Hedgewizard, Thanks for your thoughts. I've been meaning to respond for a while now, but work has been a bit mental... There are few meaningful decisions which you can make beyond attack attack attack. I generally agree. There is a great article floating round the internet with ways to make comba...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Hi guys, Quick update. I've tweaked a couple of modifiers, and put together a condensed guide onto a single page of A4 as a PDF... (Hmmm.. don't seem to be able to upload PDFs... Have saved it as a png instead...) I changed my mind on the armour modifiers being applied to the armour ROLL, realising ...

Re: House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

Cheers guys, I really appreciate the positive feedback. Condensing the ideas into a concise list of options is a great idea. I'll get on that real soon... :) This whole aspect of combat started as a realistic combat game of my own, as a standalone game, but with a simple roleplaying system included....

House Rules: Weapons & Armour...

So, a quick introduction... I've played fighting fantasy since the early days, and have been a big fan of roleplaying in general. For a similar amount of time, I've done martial arts, and have black belts in judo and iai, or japanese swordfighting. When we get free time, we play with a range of weap...

Re: Resisting Psionics with 'Mental Strength'?

I think you may be right Nuvole!, It does feel like a Special Skill which has been edited out.

I'll keep 'Mental Strength' in reserve for any characters with superb mental abilities, such as the galaxy's greatest detective, or super logical science officers...

Cheers.

Resisting Psionics with 'Mental Strength'?

Page 78 of Stellar Adventures that the target may resist a psionic attack with PSIONICS + Mental Strength.
I haven't come across any other references to Mental strength in special skills, talents, or psionic special skills...

What am I missing?

Cheers!
