Re: New Weapons and Armour

Filling in a few gaps: Gauntlet – Gauntlets, studded leather gloves, brass knuckles, and other implements that reinforce the fist enable the bearer to inflict more damage with a punch. Plate armour automatically includes gauntlets, but such items must otherwise be purchased separately. Their use fa...

The sneaking rogue example in Opposed checks page 47 and Awareness and Hiding pages 54-55: What is this symetric modifier rule ? (...) I think the example on page 47 is worded badly (to say the least). The rule on page 54/55 says that "modifiers from the list below are applied to the Hero's test, d...

Another question for the FAQ: Does the Natural Mage talent (in any form) affect minor magic/cantrips in any way? By the letter of the rule I guess not, but that also seems counter-intuitive...

p48: Whatever the duration of a round (2sec or 10 secs) a movement rate of 2m per combat round is very very very slow... (lower than walking speed !) Hmm... I understood the 2m as being what you can move if you are actually part of the combat, that is "being attacked" or "attacking" or performing s...

Bought mine at Outland (www.outland.no) in Oslo, Norway. I've been wanting the AFF game since I saw a notice about it in an old library version of a Fighting Fantasy book (I think a norwegian translation of The Forest of Doom) in my childhood, probably more than 20 years ago... So of course I picked...

Converting the FF books to AFF2 adventures

So, I'm thinking about adventures for AFF2. I like to have some ready-made material at the beginning of a campaign. I don't have the previous edition of AFF, so the adventure material in those books (if any) isn't available to me. So i'm thinking about converting the gamebooks into multi-player scen...

The description of the dodge skill says that dodge can be used in combat - obviously this is true if you also have the swashbuckler talent. However, another talent also mentions dodge. I think it's called something like "solid defence", but I can't remember exactly (and I left the book at home). Any...

Such a penalty is very tempting, yes. The same one should probably apply to sneaking. And swimming, if there isn't such a penalty there already (don't have the books with me). But then again, maybe not. A sword for example could be strapped across your back (although arguably you wouldn't be able to...

Yeah, I guess it does work, and you're right about the character Midnight Rogue actually running about with a sword. Of course, that requires investment in the swords skill, which would lead to most such characters opting for a weapon different from the shortsword, since the sword is just better - a...

That's also a good house rule, and much easier to remember and understand than mine. To keep daggers "closer to unarmed" than other weapons (as seems to be the intention in the rules), maybe one still shouldn't get the unarmed-penalty when fighting unarmed or with improvised weapons against someone ...

I was thinking about the "wrong choices"-thing myself. I think it's actually handled relatively well by the fact that you can A) fail to cast the spell (and it still costs STAMINA) and B) even miscast completly and have to roll on the OOPS-table. The effects are similar to choosing a wrong syllable ...

Some justifications for my suggested changes are in order, I guess. First of all, I think my version is slightly better balanced. But I've mentioned that already. The balancing is especially in the fact that upgrading his spellcasting skill - which he WILL do anyway - no longer improves his arcane b...

I love the idea - flavourful actions for mages that are out of spells are one of the few things I liked about 4e. But I think maybe the damage is a bit high here. Okay, the potential rolls on the admittedly nasty "Ouch!"-table balances things slightly, but it isn't THAT much worse than a normal fumb...

Penalty for unarmed...

The penalyt for fighting unarmed against an armed opponent is -4... now this doesn't bother me too much, except that improvised weapons and indeed daggers is counted as improvised weapons. A penalty of -4 is huge. Consider two completely equal heroes, except one uses a short sword and one uses a dag...
