That's what the wording would say. That being said, I think Ward was intended to be used as a reactive spell similar to Counterspell, and would allow the caster to drop his action to use this spell in the missile phase instead. Otherwise, it would have little use compared to other protective spells ...

Re: Wizard Combat Question 2: Opposed Roll?

Should the spellcasting Wizard in combat make TWO rolls, one for the spell being cast and one vs. the attacker? That's how I understand it. Also note that it must be separate rolls, as magic employs MAGIC for casting/counterspelling and LUCK for resistance, while melee employs solely SKILL. And don...

Re: New Talent: Martial Artist

Negating the unarmed penalty is a must, given how steep the penalty is and how important effective Skill is in combat. There will be no way around it. Spending luck is an awkward way of limiting, and one that is too close to the way priestly abilities work. The limitation of activation per day by sk...

Fang/Chiang Mai = China
Arrantis = Egypt
Mortvania = Transylvania
most of NW Allansia = Ye Olde Englande

Kakhabad is a pretty weird place that defies easy classification.
Port Blacksand also has no direct real world analogue.

Looking at the book list, I think Hachiman (Sword of the Samurai) or the Inland Sea (Seas of Blood) would be the best bets to get something that feels unique. Hachiman is essentially Japan and employs a lot of mythological beasts from that area. One thing I personally dislike is that Hachiman is pre...

As far as I checked, AFF Sorcery costs and Sorcery! sorcery costs are the same. There are some other changes to spells (like DOC not working on the sorcerer himself), but not too many. The only thing that unsettles me a bit is MUD. It worked in Sorcery!, where sand was hard to come by. In AFF, a sor...

NEW GOD: Lunara

Lunara Godess of the Moon Specific Power: A priestess of Lunara may once per day put a target into a deep sleep by kissing it. An unwilling target may test for LUCK. This particularly deep sleep, if not interrupted, will restore (4+Devotion) STAMINA points and cure all poisons and diseases. A targe...

Hachiman has some very distinct monsters, as Shikome, Rokuro-Kubi or Kappa. The latter have made it into OOTP as Kokomokoa.

You can also check which books were set in Khul and then read up their encounter lists on the FF Wikia: http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/K ... et_in_Khul

Personally, I'd only create as much mechanical overhead as needed. AFF already has rules for a kind of magic that is easy to pull off and costs virtually no magic points - cantrips. Here's what I would come up with: New Cantrip: Arcane Bolt The caster points with at his target, sending a flurry of b...

Ah, food... I didn't think of looking up under that. I thought of "ration" and "meal", but not of that one.

Thanks a lot.

It's a bit odd that travel rations are more expensive than tavern meals. But then again, as they can be carried around they are of more value from a gameplay perspective.

Rations prices?

It might sound like a stupid question, and probably I'mjust missing it, but I can't find an entry for rations and their price in the equipment section on p106ff. As they play a pretty vital role for healing and prolonged travel (whether overland or dungeon exploration), I'd like an official answer o...
