stellar adventures - Alien creation. What am I missing?

Ok, so I seem to be confused by the alien creation rules in stellar adventures.

When trying to reproduce a normal human hero they seem to be underpowered, I use just 11 of the 18 points. Yet on the errata thread someone said it takes 19 points. So I must be doing something wrong.

First of all a skill of 4 and stamina of 8, gives us a luck of 8. That seems pretty clear.

Then we have 18 design points to spend. Looking at a human hero we have the following.

Luck +1 (cost 1 point)
3 skills at 2 (cost 1 point per skill, or 3 in total)
6 skills at 1 (cost 1 per 2 skills, or 3 in total)
1 talent (cost 4 points, at the most)

That comes to 11 points in total. So what have I missed?

Characteristic points. That's +8
He just sits there tapping away all day on a tiny screen. But he tells everyone that he is slaying Orcs.

Yes I just got that. I was hoping to look less stupid by posting that before, some one else did.

Slaps self!

I was thinking in AFF terms, where they are applied after race creation rather than as part of it.

I think the 19 points issue makes sense, as human Heroes will be either 17 or 19 points depending on the talent picked. So an average of 18, sort of.
