i think that lack of level is a GOOD point for AFF...

I agree. Free progression is far more realistic. But I can't send new characters into "Undermountain" without some xp's under their belts... just like the sorcery campaign with it's 200-300 xp suggested! Levels or not, some comparisons may be necessary to make the challenges seems right.

I'm just going to eyeball everything and not sweat the mechanics at all. That way, it matters little after they finish the entire Temple of Elemental Evil campaign (around 8th level using d&d) how much they've increased, because the next adventure will by eyeballed the exact same way

As long as the story is being told and the party are having fun, it's a success

The story is the main thing - well, that and pizza :D
