Re: More on Scifi AFF2
I think that appointment with F.E.A.R. and the "supers" version of the game should be another, independent version of the ruleset, different from the sci-fi one.

Hmm, not sure that a setting is really needed for this. I would focus on providing a toolkit for playing AFF in a wide variety of different SciFi settings.

I'd prefer the toolkit approach too. Including a range of sample settings like those provided in Mini-Six or All Flesh Must Be Eaten would make this a 'must buy' for me. I don't really want a default setting with every kind of sci-fi uncomfortably shoehorned in.

There's been an update - it's coming along nicely.

I read that he agrees with me that appointment with FEAR doesn't fit in the sci-fi setting...
Possibly a "supers" setting can be developed separately...

It's been a while without an update (unless I've missed it).
Does anyone know if the project is still ongoing?

Re: More on Scifi AFF2
I am not sure that a AFF supers game would work anyway. The strength of the FF series is the world (or worlds). Appointment with fear, although a great book, doesnt have a particularly interesting world- its just a typical american city. If you wanted to run a game in Titan city, it may be a lot easier to just use your supers game of choice, and make up stats for the Titan city villains. Thats a lot easier than making a supers system based on the AWF book - the superpowers are pretty basic, and SKILL, STAMINA and LUCK just doesnt feel like a superhero game to me. Dont get me wrong, AFF is a very nice game, but I dont think you can run any game with it, especially supers settings.
Re: More on Scifi AFF2
Years back I put together a SciFi FF system.
I merged the ideas from Starship traveler, Space Assassin, Rings of Kether, Rebel Planet and Star Strider.
I know I didn't use anything from F.E.A.R, Robot commando or Sky Lord.
My favorite thing was the crew a ship combat from Starship traveler.
I liked the idea of having a crew that you could command, and I liked the idea that they could die and would be replaced by weaker crew men.
I developed a critical strike system for ship combat, a variety of new weapons and systems for ships and used the armies of darkness mass army combat rules for ship boarding battle.
Looking forward to seeing AFF scifi

Re: More on Scifi AFF2
Yeah; obviously playtesting etc can take a bit of time, but I really don't think SciFi AFF should be that massive a project: mostly just adding some technology skills and equipment, and rules for vehicle & space combat (which should be very similar to the existing combat system). Keep everything lightweight and generic. So I can only assume other things intervened to delay the project.
I and others posted some ideas in a thread way back: http://arion-games.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=305. Other threads discussed basing Psionics on Sorcery magic. Personally I would ignore the various rules that appeared in the sci-fi themed FF books, unless there is something that fits in nicely.

I read the draft and I noticed that it doesn expand on robot fighting (such as in Robot Commando), that could be a nice addition... after all, Robot Commando is arguably the best Sci-Fi Fighting Fantasy gamebook...
