An extension on the last, Maelstrom gamers would do well to root out one of more of Jonathon Green's books on slang. While I have the Cassell Dictionary Of Slang, he has contributed to, or edited, other volumes. I managed to pick up something specifically on Cant (the language of thieves), which has proven invaluable.

I have also been reading a couple of books by SJ Parris that are set in the 1570's. The main character is an agent of Walsingham, and they are along the same lines as the Shardlake books by CJ Sansom.

I would heartily reccommend both series for any GM or player of maelstrom

I have discovered the Hew Cullan Mysteries by Shirley McKay - starting with Hue and Cry - set in Tudor Scotland. Worth it from the standpoint of the Guilds/Companies and the scholarly angle of inducting pupils from both well-to-do families and those reliant on the kindness of a bursary. Recommended (despite not having quite finished reading it yet!).
